I have a pillow that sits in my living room that reads, “Support your local wildlife, have children.” This nicely sums up that I think my children, now teens, are mostly feral. However, Suzanna Kaye, professional organizer has a super sweet awesome 7 year old, so there is still a great deal of hope at her house.
Check out this great facebook live (okay, facebook video that was recorded in advance but aired at the same time as the live).
I can not emphasize enough the importance of independence. This can literally be the biggest struggle but makes or breaks whether or not your system of cleaning up works. If it’s Mom’s system alone, then your very smart angel is going to let you keep it in working order.
In a previous video, Suzanna Kaye, mentioned that lids get in the way and it’s much easier for children and adults alike to just have a place to toss stuff. Building on that, check out over the door organizers. Little pockets for little people.
How cute is Kayla’s?
I wish I could justify a pocket for slime but that’s not something I need day to day. Also, it’s not something I want my son to get his hands on either as it doesn’t come out of a sofa… quite as well as one might hope!
Back to organizing, using painter’s tape to create labels on boxes so that we can instantly see what’s there but still able to change it as needed is one of my personal favorite tips. Using the dark hidden space above it for “wait and see” items is another thing I can start using now at my house.
Using a limited space for memorabilia is an excellent way to gradually teach kids how to make good decisions about what stuff to keep and what to not keep. A skill many never learned.
I’m always impressed by all the great ideas Suzanna Kaye has tucked in that mind of hers. Which tip impressed you the most?
