Closet Organizing 101 The Basics You Need

Closet Organizing 101

By Ruth Zeman

With summer coming to an end and school fast approaching I find myself wondering what clothes and shoes my family needs for the year. So without thinking, I went into my teen son’s bedroom to check his drawers and closet.

I barely made it out alive.

Y’all. closet

I love my son. Really. I’d die for him. I also might need to announce a day or two in advance that I’d like to check his clothes. Volunteering for a heart attack really isn’t a smart use of my time.  I can only imagine what it must be like for mother’s that let their kids have reptiles as pets.

Confession of an Organizer: Baskets

Confession of an Organizer:

Baskets aren’t an addiction.baskets

There are no support groups. As long as there are no support groups, I’m going to stick with it’s not an addiction.

Of course, by this logic my Amazon shopping habits aren’t a problem either…..

Organize the Little Things with an Over the Door Organizer!

Organize the Little Things with an Over the Door Organizer!

Oh the little things…little things

Batteries, pencils, twist ties, rubber bands, legos, toiletries, tea candles, you know, the little things. Stuff you really do need but they’re just begging to be organized. You already know I’m not going to tell you to throw them in a drawer and forget out it.

Nope. Not this girl.

I’m going to give you great tips for ways to make those little things look beautiful and be right at your finger tips when you need them!

Let’s start in the hear of the home!

The kitchen.

little things An over the door organizer doesn’t have to hang over a door. What?! Right!

Use hardware or my personal favorite 3m hooks, to hang on a wall.

Inside a pantry, just outside the kitchen door in the garage, you name it. Put those handy wipe, cleaners, fresh rags or sponges there. Baking soda, vinegar, cleaners, brushes, and other cleaning tools. In fact this would work just as well in the Laundry room as the Kitchen.

Consider putting water bottles, ziploc boxes, foil, seasoning packets, snacks, the ideas are limited only to what you have to stuff it with! Ah…. all those little things – tidy. Be still my heart.

The Bathroom.

Confession time – this is my actual stuff, in my actual bathroom. I rent so no looking at the tile. Can you see how handy this is in a small space? Puts everything where I can see it easily and bonus because I can easily see it, I can easily put it back! Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

These over the door organizers are work horses! You could put bathing suits, unders, diapers, pull ups, wash clothes, shampoo, conditioners, brushes, hair do pretty thingys.

The Bedroom.

Scarves, socks, belts, tshirts….. the pins on Pinterest telling you what to put in one of these for your closet is endless. Don’t forget toys… dog toys. What? your dogs don’t use your closet?

The Office. little things

This might be my favorite. No junk drawers here! Just beautifully sorted office supplies. They make me happy. Just looking over at them makes me smile. Rubber bands, binder clips, power cords, batteries, post it notes, markers, sharpies, scissors….. don’t they look beautiful?

Kids Room.

Don’t skip this is you don’t have kids. You probably have a fur baby – which is really a kid, come on. Toys, stuffies, legos, small books, small shoes, small clothes, and so many tiny things. Get more than one.

Also this is a great idea for kids rooms: Toy Library

Ornaments! or cold weather gear. Perfect for gloves and hats, scarves, wool socks….. this thing can go in your car too!

So, isn’t your head just swimming with good ideas? Go forth, get an over the door organizer! Be organized!

You’re welcome.
