Getting Smarter With: Gretchen Rubin

Author: Ruth Zeman
I have a confession. I'm got a major crush on Gretchen Rubin. Which if you've ever dipped a toe into psychology and read one of her books you'll understand that I'm really falling in love with myself.I first heard about her from a friend who was raving about "The Four Tendencies". She was excited to inform me that I'm a rebel.

Duh.

Then she proceeded to tell me that she gets me now. I'm guessing I cocked my head to one side and gave her a "sure you do" smile. Then she kinda blew my mind. (I'd tell you but it's above your pay grade.)So I did what every other normal red blooded American did, I got in line for a copy of Gretchen Rubin's book. I went to my local Library and dutifully got my name on the list cause, of course, it was checked out. After all, she made the best seller's list. Not wanting to leave empty handed I took what was available and went home with the Happiness Project.

“Look for happiness under your own roof.”

I'll confess, I couldn't put it down and read it in two days. I'm positive I already need to read it again. Her writing style is easy to understand and her topic is actually better understanding ourselves. Her journey became my journey and I became a better person. I was pretty awesome to start so I almost wanted to throw a parade, to celebrate how amazing life is.Seriously, my JOY increased! This is a big deal folks. You're not going to want to miss this.

“What you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while.”

Suzanna Kaye, has told us to use photos to help us see our spaces again, and Gretchen Rubin, shows us how to look at ourselves for our happiness. Breaking it down into something simple and easy to accomplish. You're really going to want to put her on your reading list.Giddy after the Happiness Project, I decided not to wait for my Library hold and went to straight to the bookstore. Like potato chips, I can't get just one, and purchased Better Than Before while I was there to get the Four Tendencies.

“In the chaos of everyday life, it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters, and I can use my habits to make sure that my life reflects my values.”

― Gretchen RubinBetter Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives
I'm done reading all three now and I'm all but glowing with new insights to my favorite topic of all time, me. I learned more about how I do things than I thought possible. Which has taken my personal hygiene, health, relationships, and career to new levels. Not in a painful way but with graceful moments of knowledge and wisdom. Not only do I want you to dive in and learn more about the wonderful amazing creature that you are but in the coming days I want to talk more about how knowing if we're abundance decorators or minimalists effects our comfort levels at home and office. Seriously though, you've got to read these books!
