We’ve all seen the movie Toy Story right? I’m pretty sure that’s close to how it actually works. Toys getting up in the middle of the night makes way more sense than our precious angels making such giant messes, right?
It’s enough to drive a normal person batty and mom’s are exhausted people. While we all know children are a joy, so is a beautifully tidy room. When my kids were little they wouldn’t play in a messy room. They would hunt down a tidy space. Telling me that the other room wasn’t any fun anymore.
They were on to something that most adults still haven’t quite figured out. It’s overwhelming to be surrounded by mess. Even when we made the mess, recognize all the stuff, and don’t plan on doing anything about it. No judgement, I’ve walked past that room more than once and just closed the door.
Thankfully we also have professional organizer Suzanna Kaye to inspire us to walk back into that space and take control!
Creating systems to train our children is genius! I have teens today and can tell you that I made a few mistakes. I put lids on my tubs, oops. I can see how that would have made a world of difference.
Training our kids to do this themselves is the step before training them to have a system for school work. It’s a great way to ease them into successes they will need as adults. I can totally thank my parents for that kind of training.
Which, you can now imagine for yourself. Grown up children thanking you for teaching them to clean up…. a pipe dream today but a possible reality for tomorrow.
